On Wednesday, October 28, International Animation Day is celebrated worldwide. The day, launched by ASIFA (Association Internationale du Film d’Animation / International Animated Film Association), is held at a time considered to mark the birth of animation. In 1892, French artist Émile Reynaud presented moving animated images to an audience for the very first time at the Théâtre Optique in Paris.
Animaatiokilta will celebrate this anniversary on Thursday, October 29 with an animation screening at Kino Killa in Turku’s Taiteentalo. The screening offers audiences a unique opportunity to discover inventive and skillfully crafted short animations from around the world. The programme is compiled from works created by members of ASIFA’s member countries, with selections made by the board of Animaatiokilta.
The screening is free for members of Animaatiokilta and for students. Others may support the event with an optional 5-euro admission fee.
